Huge Difference Between Grams and Weeks

Last week, I requested for some 6 week-olds Rattus norvegicus:

Today, our lab technician received pups at 6 grams each:

Who’s got the time to take care of these babies???

Reminds me by the way of that infamous unit confusion which resulted to the crashing of the Mars Climate Orbiter in 1998. The software was working in pound-force while the hardware was expecting commands in the metric, Newton. This of course led the thrusters to blast 4.5 times more than it was intended to be, pushing the orbiter at a much lower orbit resulting to tremendous atmospheric friction. A $300 million dollar project literally crashed and burned.

Fortunately, our rats cost only a “few” hundred euros.
