The Four Stages of Acceptance

i) this is worthless nonsense;
ii) this is an interesting, but perverse, point of view;
iii) this is true, but quite unimportant;
iv) I always said so
.

(J.B.S. Haldane, Journal of Genetics #58, 1963,p.464)

We recently got our manuscript back after having been reviewed by the three supposedly best people in the field.

Reviewer # 1 obviously belonged to the other school of thought, opposite to ours, as his review could be summed up by i) above.

Reviewer #2 is an interesting chap, as it was apparent that he is on the brink of breaking up from the ranks of Reviewer #1 by having opinion ii).

Reviewer #3 with his iii) and iv) tone of letter sounded like an old arrogant fart who seemed to have seen it all, trivializing our findings.

We have 60 days to reply and do some more additional experiments.

This is going to be an exciting summer break indeed.

Not.
