Removing Those Annoying Smiley Frames

This post is probably suited only for Metrobloggen users without any CSS coding know-how.

Out of boredom, while waiting for my cells to settle down in the centrifuge [never mind about the technical terms…] I decided to take a look at the CSS code of my template page as provided by Metrobloggen.

I remember this lottery post where I said I didn’t like the smileys provided by Metrobloggen, and one of the reasons is the default frame around it. I also remember that Smek This! once asked me if I knew how to remove those frames around the smileys. I didn’t know how to do it then.

Now I know the answer!

Here goes:

Go to your CSS coding page, and locate this part:

#minBlogg img {
    border:1px solid #000;
}

Depending on your template CSS code the numbers following the “#” sign is  probably not 000. In my case, I changed it to 000 as this means “black”. So technically, I still got frames around my smileys but since it is black, it is not seen on the black background. However, if you set 1px to 0px, this will totally remove the frames around all your smileys and around all the images in your posts.

That’s it. As simple as that.

Now if everything screws up, just change back to original values. Anyway you can always use the classical keyboard smiley, : ).

Ok, beautiful people! Got to harvest my cells! Keep on smilin’ !

<<<Look, ’ma! No frames!

    So this hasabsolutely no use for me… but I’m still pumped that you did this. I love it when people figure this stuff out. I’m horrible at it so I rely on others to do the technical stuff.

  2. Anna says:

It’s easy for me to get obsessed finding solutions for seemingly small meaningless problems like this one. Ha det bra in Stockholm! 🙂

  4. Alright, this is waaaay beyond me. I’m totally computer illiterate. I’m actually more interested in your cultured cells – what they’re supposed to being doing and what results you’re getting. One of my friends told me I’m a hopeless blogger – I write too academic. *HAHAH!* And my posts are more like journal articles than blog posts. I often cite references in my posts. *wry smile* So I’m totally interested in your cell cultures and what you’re working with. Write that! Cheryl

    @cheryl: oh, i’m so sorry to disappoint you my friend, but i’ve decided right from the start not to write anything about the nature of my work. it’s kind of top secret research, you know! hahaha! just kidding! it’s just that MOGLi’s Blog is supposed to be my outlet for non-science related stuffs. I don’t want to contaminate this with über-nerd postings! But I have this science blog which I haven’t had the chance to update for ages: http://www.metrobloggen.se/science. One day I will post something about my research over there. Cheers!

  8. MOGLI says:

    @Anna and others who tried but didn’t work: After changing the CSS code, you should log-out of your account, navigate to another page (like Google for example) then, you should clear the cookies of your browser, or much better clean all the browsing history and stored pages. After doing this, close the browser. When you restart the browser again all the saved pages should be gone, including your Metrobloggen pages with smileys trapped in cages. Hope this helps. And by the way, Firefox works much better when customizing Metrobloggen pages so it’s maybe worth to install this browser.

  9. Anna says:

    Goding! Tack så hemskt mycket! Will do. 😀

    I knew it! Haha 😛 I’m going with two friends and help the poor people there for three weeks, so I’m not really being a tourist in the way that I go there just to visit the country. I am really looking forward to it, I have been in almost every country in Europe, but never outside so I’m really excited :).
