Rocky Balboa in Serbia

At today’s Metro:

“Rocky becomes statue in Serbia.”

My first reaction was “WHY?”

Okay, this small Serbian village called Zitiste chose Rocky Balboa to represent itself after years of hardship. Somehow the village people could relate to Rocky’s struggle to win his place in the society.

Everyone needs a hero, a sort of inspiration to go on despite all the hardships and challenges in life. But a fictional boxer from Hollywood?

I won’t be surprised if their official anthem is “Eye of the Tiger.” Β Β

Funny, I also wanted to submit a little text about this strange event, but you were quicker and probably better, too.:) The most amazing thing is that they chose a fictitious person for the symoblic statue, not a real one. Maybe that tells a lot about these people’s belief in reality and its unlimited possibilities. I wonder what fictitious character(s) could be chosen as a statue representing the area where I live. My suggestion would probably be Coyote Carl, the eternal loser from Looney Tunes.

Hej Rakotozafy! (wow, that was hard to say fast…hehehe) Funny about your choice of Looney Tunes character,,,I can’t think of one right now to represent the little village where I come from, but it is probably like yours… :)You are right that perhaps people find unlimited possibilities if their ideals are based on something that is unreal or even superhuman. But a short look in history can easily give us real people to look up to, like Nelson Mandela, Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, etc. I would have loved to see statues of these men in all corners of the planet, than some fictional hollywood hero.

Hi again, thanks a lot for dropping by earlier in my blog, and thanks for the enormous kindness to add me to the brave 300 Spartans πŸ™‚ I will also link to your pages, since I think Sweden needs more good blogs in English. About the film “Idiocracy” I will send you a seperate e-mail. And about the instrument “marovany” – I sort of play it, yes, but not very well. Besides, my instrument has gone out of tune and it is impossible to retune it properly, so I will have to buy a new one next time I come to Paris. God knows when that will be … Take care, good luck! R.

Yes, she’s my little baby ;-DOh, Eye of the tiger! In that case we can at least hope that they sing it better than that guy from American (English?) Idol!

@Mim: That’s your cat in the film? And how about the puppies? So many of them,,,so adorable! Yeah, I was actually thinking about the intro of Eye of the Tiger…you know the guitar riff that goes like, “Bam,..bam,bam,bam,,,,bam,bam,bam,,,,bam,bam,baaaam,,,” hahaha, something like that. Very inspiring soundtrack right? I like to listen to it in my mp3 when I do my laundry or vacuum the house. It sets me in the mood to fight all the dirt! lols.

  6. Mim says:

Ah, sorry, I read your comment on the comment page and thoght you meant my cute little kittie, but of course you meant those sweet little puppies, kinda pushing each other, daring each other to approach the cat. Very sweet πŸ˜€

Hi! Well, I think I might write an entry about drugs, alcohol and prostitution in Holland. Many people don’t know anything about it and think that everyone in Holland is “high” (which is nonsense). Thanks for the idea :).

  8. Lian says:

Good :). It will probably be in English because I once wrote an entry in English about this in my other blog, so I just need to copy it. I am not lazy at all πŸ˜‰

  9. crackgrrl says:

Well, it could have been worse. It could have been Borat or Austin Powers!

  10. MOGLI says:

@crackgrrl: hehehe,,, a Borat statue in the village square would have been a hit!

  11. Mim says:

Well, now that I have revealed my secret identity to my sweetheart I guess I can only write nice things about him. :-DIf I in the future need to write about mer personal things, I can always make a new blog…Hihi, fact is, we just discussed him starting a new blog of his own. I don’t think that your suggestion will be his nick though… ;-DI think he liked my blog, especially the part where I wrote of “trivselkilon”, to meet someone that you feel comfortable with and eat good food and enjoy life with πŸ˜€

  13. Lian says:
